  • 🇺🇸 This photo was taken almost 3 years ago during my 2-month solo backpacking trip through Mexico. Here I was on the way to the Playa Suelo next to the Laguna Manialtepec about 40 minutes away from Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Luckily, a truck passed and gave us a ride on the way from the paved main road to the lagoon. As the fresh water of the lagoon meets the saltwater of the Pacific Ocean, you can experience here the phenomenon of bioluminescent plankton at night. Just take a swim and watch the luminescent streaks as you move through the water! What an unforgettable natural wonder! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 🇩🇪 Dieses Foto ist vor knapp 3 Jahren entstanden, während meines 2-monatigen Solo Backpacking Trips durch Mexiko. Hier war ich auf dem Weg zum Playa Suelo neben der Laguna Manialtepec circa 40 Minuten entfernt von Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Glücklicherweise hat uns ein Viehtransporter auf dem Weg von der asphaltierten Hauptstraße bis zur Lagune eingesammelt. Da das Süßwasser der Lagune hier mit dem Salzwasser des Pazifiks aufeinandertrifft, kannst du nachts das Phänomen des fluoreszierenden Planktons erleben, was bei jeder Bewegung im Wasser ein blau-grünes Leuchten erzeugt! Was für ein unvergessliches Naturschauspiel! .   • 🇺🇸 Have you already been to Monte Albán??? . Monte Albán is the oldest city in the Americas built by the Zapotecs; dating back to 500 BC! Besides the historical background, the ruins offer fantastic panoramic views of the modern city of Oaxaca and the giant Oaxaca valley. Most fascinated I'm about the enormous network of underground tunnels the ruins encompass! Tubes are going for example to Arrazola, Atzompa and even to the Santo Domingo Church in downtown Oaxaca! But they are all closed to the public. If you have the chance, talk to the old people in Arrazola for example, they all have creepy stories to tell about people who got lost in the vast tunnel system... 😱 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 🇩🇪 Warst du schon in Monte Albán??? . Monte Albán ist die älteste Stadt in Amerika. Bereits um 500 v. Ch. wurde sie von den Zapoteken erbaut. Aber nicht nur wegen der Geschichte lohnt sich ein Ausflug zu den Ruinen! Denn von dort aus hast du auch einen fantastischen Panoramablick über Oaxaca City und das umliegende Tal. Am meisten fasziniert mich aber das riesige Tunnelsystem, was sich unter Monte Albán erstreckt. Die Tunnel führen zum Beispiel bis nach Arrazola, Atzompa oder sogar zur Santo Domingo Kirche im Zentrum Oaxacas. Leider sind die Tunnel aber für die Öffentlichkeit gesperrt. Falls du die Chance hast, rede mit den Locals in Arrazola zum Beispiel, die können dir gruselige Geschichten über Leute erzählen, die sich in dem unterirdischen Tunnelsystem verlaufen haben.... 😱

  • Im Moment werde ich immer wieder mit dem Thema Unabhängigkeit der Frau konfrontiert. Sei es durch erfolgreiche Single-Karrierefrauen, die ich persönlich hier in Oaxaca treffe oder durch Blogposts und Social Media Posts zu dem Thema, die plötzlich auf meinem Bildschirm aufploppen! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Nach vielen Jahren Festanstellung und gutem Gehalt in Deutschland bin ich nun wieder finanziell abhängig. Cesars Übersetzer-Job ist derzeit unsere Haupteinkommensquelle. Meine Affiliate-Einnahmen reichen in manchen Monaten noch nicht mal für die Miete. Und um unsere Alebrijes Tour @youralebrije allein durchzuführen, fühle ich mich aufgrund meiner limitierten Spanischkenntnisse zu unsicher. Obwohl ich nicht viel zum sog. Haushaltseinkommen beitrage, ist mir allerdings alles andere als langweilig! Auf verschiedenen Kanälen regelmäßig Content produzieren; eMails und Nachrichten beantworten; Material für unsere Kunsthandwerker-Datenbank sammeln, bearbeiten und einpflegen; Spanisch lernen; technische Probleme lösen usw. füllt meine Woche bestens aus. Nur entspricht diese Arbeit nicht dem typischen Zeit-Lohn-Prinzip. Die Zeit, die ich da reinstecke, wird nicht entsprechend entlohnt, was mich schon manchmal frustriert und dazu führt, dass ich über Optionen nachdenke, um mein eigenes Geld zu verdienen. Und so passiert es, dass ich Angebote bekomme, wie z.B. Webseiten gegen Geld zu erstellen oder Touren auf Deutsch anzubieten. Die Entscheidung liegt bei mir. Ich kann mich aufgrund ausbleibender Bezahlung unnütz und wertlos fühlen und an meiner finanziellen Unabhängigkeit arbeiten. Optionen ergeben sich schon von allein. Oder ich kann die Situation so annehmen wie sie ist, dankbar dafür sein und den Fokus weiterhin auf die (unbezahlte) Arbeit richten, die sich in den nächsten Jahren für uns beide auszahlen wird! Mein Herz entscheidet sich ganz klar für die letztere Variante! Wie ist es für dich, finanziell abhängig vom Partner zu sein? Geht gar nicht oder ist normal?

  • I still owe you some more pictures from the beach 🏖👙🌴 . 🇺🇸 As we went to Puerto Escondido for New Years, Cesar wanted to see Mazunte, the small fishers village just 2 hours away he went to 15 years ago. The changes are massive! 15 years back, Mazunte just had one little store to buy the basics. No bar, no restaurant, no hotels, nothing; he had to sleep in the car. Today, Mazunte is a trendy spot for Hippies all over the world. Many Europeans living here, opened vegan restaurants, exclusive Airbnbs, natural cosmetic shops and yoga classes. The mood is still relaxed and laid-back in Mazunte, but the change from a virgin beach to a must-see in Oaxaca for hip Western tourists in just 15 years is immense! #howtourismchangesplaces ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _______________________________________________⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🇩🇪 Über Silvester waren wir ein paar Tage in Puerto Escondido an der Pazifikküste Oaxacas. Die Fotos sind aus dem ca. 2 Stunden entfernten Mazunte, was mir persönlich besser gefällt. Cesar war vor 15 Jahren das letzte Mal in Mazunte und er konnte kaum glauben, wie krass sich dieser Ort in so kurzer Zeit verändert hat. Vor 15 Jahren gab es lediglich einen Kiosk im ganzen Dorf. Keine Bar, kein Restaurant, kein Hotel, nichts. Übernachtet hat er damals im Auto oder einfach am Strand. Heute ist Mazunte beliebt bei Hippies aus der ganzen Welt. Viele Europäer leben hier, betreiben vegane Restaurants, Naturkosmetik-Shops, exklusive Airbnbs und bieten Yoga-Klassen an. Die Stimmung hier ist immer noch relaxed und die Strände keineswegs überfüllt. Aber der Wandel von einem komplett unberührten und kaum besiedelten Fischerdorf hin zum must-see Oaxacas, das dem westlichen Tourist keine Wünsche offen lässt, in lediglich 15 Jahren ist enorm!
  • Even though 2019 just began, I already learned a lot. The Pacific ocean thought me a valuable lesson: . 🌊 We watched the waves from the beach in Mazunte for quite some time. Everything was calm; even the kids had fun in the water. The bartender as well assured us that it's a safe place to swim. . 🏖 So we went into the sea; just a few meters, still being able to touch the ground with our feet. Suddenly the waves turned and became unmanageable. After the first massive wave drew me away from shore and knocked me off my feet, I just wanted to get out. But once I started swimming towards the beach, the next wave hit me, pulled me back to the sea and pushed me under the water. I became panic and had problems to breathe. I wasn't able to hold my breath and dive under the waves anymore. Cesar was just a meter away, but not able to grab my hand since the current drew me away from him. Then I heard a whistle sound, and a lifeguard helped me out of the sea 🙏🏽 Even though the whole spectacle didn't take more than a minute, we felt quite exhausted. The lifeguard told us what to do in a situation like that: Never fight the current, go with it even though it will draw you out to sea. Stay calm and don't panic! If the turbulences stay strong, swim parallel to the shore until you can make your way back in. You can also apply this tactic to life. As the sea is as unpredictable as life, you should go with the flow. Sometimes it will pull you back. Accept it and never fight the turbulence. The storm will pass by; stay calm and patient ✨💪🏽💕

  • Best way to travel Mexico is by bus 🚌🇲🇽🌴 . Ich empfehle dir für deine Mexiko Rundreise das öffentliche Busnetz anstatt eines Mietwagens. Die Busse sind modern, schnell, sicher und preiswert. Zudem ist das Streckennetz sehr gut ausgebaut und oft kannst du dein nächstes Ziel im Stundentakt erreichen! .
